Planet of the apes

While we may not agree with his politics, we think even Dr. Zaius would love this Planet of the Apes route.

Draped across the hills between Pacifica and Half Moon Bay this really is a ride that makes us feel as if we’ve left the bustle of the bay for a far distant land.

The old timers among you will remember when we used to ride Old San Pedro Mountain Road on 23c slicks with rim brakes, but I can’t say I regret having a wider tire for routes like these. Having a little more volume lets us throw more in the mix: tight single track, sand, easy paved roads, chunky gravel roads, etc. This is a ride that offers very diverse terrain.

Pro tip: If you have some free time to play with, we recommend exploring around the tiny town of Montara. As you pass through you’ll see numerous little footpath offshoots heading into the woods. There’s a quiet network of trails that may lead you to hidden views and random tree swings. It’s easy to get lost, but with the area being so small it’s equally as easy to find your way back.
